Scrabble Letter Values and Premium Squares
Scrabble scoring is simple until two premium squares are involved at once — and then the order in which you apply them changes the total.

Premium squares
- Double letter — doubles that tile only.
- Triple letter — triples that tile only.
- Double word — doubles the whole word after letter bonuses.
- Triple word — triples the whole word after letter bonuses.
The order that decides the total
Letter bonuses apply first, then word bonuses. A word crossing two triple-word squares is multiplied by nine, not six. And a premium square only counts on the turn a tile is first placed on it — it is spent afterwards.
The bingo
Using all seven tiles in one turn adds a flat 50-point bonus, applied after every multiplier. It is the single biggest swing available and worth holding a rack for.
Frequently asked questions
Zero, always — even on a double-letter square. But the word bonus still applies to the whole word, so a blank on a triple-word square is entirely worth playing.
When one player uses their last tile and the bag is empty. That player adds the sum of every opponent's remaining tiles; the others subtract their own.
